Minecraft Dungeons was announced in September 2018 and got an official release window during E3 2019. This is one of many spin-off games from the Minecraft series. The Last of Us Part II

Developer: Naughty Dog
Publisher: Sony
Release Date: June 19, 2020
Platform: PlayStation 4
Genre: Action-Adventure/Horror/Survival

The Last of Us Part II was announced during a PlayStation event in December 2016 and was originally set to release sometime in Q1 2020. Serving as a sequel to the popular 2013 PlayStation exclusive – which, by the way, is on our list of the best zombie games of all-time – the game will take place 5 years after the events of its predecessor and follow the story of an older version of the main character, Ellie (which we now know is the only playable character this time around).

The Last of Us was one of the most beloved PlayStation exclusives of the PlayStation 4 generation, so there is no denying the hype levels for the upcoming sequel. Fans haven’t heard much about the game since the very strange Sony E3 2018 conference. With Sony skipping out on E3 2019, it seems that some news about The Last of Us 2 should be just around the corner, hopefully in the form of an official release date!

Utterly ridiculous – but in a good way!

Being dubbed “rehydrated” instead of remade, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom will have a new multiplayer mode as well as cut content from the original game. This upcoming remake definitely has fans very excited to help save Bikini Bottom!

Elden Ring

elden ring 2020

Developer: FromSoftware
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Release Date: June 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Genre: RPG

While the official release date hasn’t been announced yet, it seems that Elden Ring will be releasing sometime in late 2020. Elden Ring has been in development since late 2016. It is a third-person RPG that seems to revolve around the Elden Ring, whatever that is. Unfortunately, that’s all we really know about it at the moment, but hopefully, in the coming months, more information will be revealed.

It’s odd that Bandai still has not given us an update on the Elden Ring release date, given that June 2020 is just about over. It’s clear that Elden Ring won’t actually be launching in June. However, we’ll update this post when we have more official information regarding its release date.

Skater XL

skater XL mods

Developer: Easy Day Studios
Publisher: Easy Day Studios
Release Date: July 7, 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch
Genre: Skateboarding

All we can say is…it’s about DAMN time that gamers received a new skateboarding sim. If you’ve been hanging around waiting for Skate 4 from EA, the bad news is that EA continually says it’s not interested in it. The good news is that Easy Day Studios has a little game called Skater XL to satisfy those who were waiting for Skate 4.

Skater XL is available in an Early Access state on Steam right now, but the 1.0 release has been scheduled for July 7, 2020 – and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve already dropped 500+ hours (yes, seriously) in Skater XL in its Early Access version, so it’s safe to say that I know the ins and outs of this game. The first thing you need to know about Skater XL is that the controls take a similar-yet-different approach to the flick controls you might be used to if you played Skate. But instead of canned animations, Skater XL allows each thumbstick to control each foot so that no two kickflips pop and spin the exact same way; it all depends on your feet placement on the board, how fast you flick the controls, etc.

It does take a hot minute to get used to, but once you get the controls down, you’ll realize it’s actually super intuitive and way better than the skateboard sims of the past.

In the PC version of Skater XL, there’s also a massive modding community that makes the game 10x better, with custom-created maps, custom board designs, clothing, and mods that add things like fingerflips, backflips, stat sliders, and so much more. (Seriously – it’s a rabbit hole worth going down!)

The Skater XL 1.0 release will also add a massive Downtown Los Angeles map for us to play around in, and we can’t wait to skate some of the iconic L.A. spots on July 7th.

Ghost of Tsushima

ghost of tsushima

Destroy All Humans! Remake

destroy all humans remake

Developer: Pandemic Studios
Publisher: THQ
Release Date: July 28, 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Genre: Action/Adventure

The cult classic Destroy All Humans is getting a much-deserved remake in 2020, and we’re pretty stoked about it. THQ Nordic announced the remake just before E3 2019, exciting fans of the series.

The Destroy All Humans remake will be working with the original voice actors to bring back the witty humor of the original game. In the remake, players will be able to combine their psychokinetic powers with their alien weapons to cause some major havoc. Unfortunately, players have to wait until 2020 to do it.

Now, if you’re one of those who aren’t big on remakes, you might want to check out the original Destroy All Humans on PSN right now and then get back to us – while the core gameplay holds up, nothing else does.

New World

Release Date: August 25, 2020
Developer: Amazon Studios
Publisher: Amazon Studios
Platform(s): PC

The most anticipated upcoming MMORPG of 2020 is Amazon Studios New World — which has been in production for many years now. And, it sounds (and looks) INCREDIBLE if you’re a fan of the MMORPG genre.

Of course, finding success with any new MMORPG is a big wall to climb, but if anyone can do it, it’s Amazon. New World is certainly ambitious, and it all revolves around the idea that there’s a substance taking over the world and there are now warring factions who are fighting to decide what to do with the substance.

What’s most exciting about New World is its combat, which the developers have said that it’s inspired by Dark Souls in that you have to be focused on your targets and your weapons have actual weightiness and require accuracy by the player to land blows. And, if you look at any New World combat gameplay so far, it looks incredible.

New World also has no class system, either. Instead, you level up stats and choose your own way to play as you earn XP for what you like to do.

It has open world events and boss fights, as well as siege warfare (50v50 PVP battles), and they look badass. There are also large scale format PVE battles called Invasions, but we haven’t seen that yet.

Star Wars: Squadrons

Developer: Motive
Publisher: EA
Release Date: October 2, 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Genre: Dogfight Sim

Aside from Cyberpunk 2077, our MOST anticipated game of 2020 is Star Wars: Squadrons and it’s for numerous reasons. First, it’s a freaking Star Wars dogfighting game. Secondly, the entire thing is playable in VR. Also, flight sticks will work with the PC version of the game. Now, as someone who frequently plays DCS World in VR with a Hotas flight stick, I’m stoked out of my mind to be able to pilot an Imperial tie fighter and battle it out with my friends online.

Developer: Ubisoft
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release Date: February 25, 2020 DELAYED, TBA
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Switch, Stadia
Genre: Action/Adventure

Gods and Monsters is a new Ubisoft title that is being developed by the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey team. The game gives off a Breath of the Wild feel with its art style, which has lots of fans excited. During the E3 2019 Ubisoft conference, the publisher revealed the new game and dished out a February 25, 2020 release date.

In Gods and Monsters, players will be able to encompass the power of the gods to help save them from one of the most deadly creatures in Greek mythology. The gods have given players some awesome powers to help them defeat their enemy, Typhon. Since the game was just recently announced at the time of writing this, there is still a lot that is unknown about the game, but hopefully, we will learn more soon.

Essentially, it’s going to be like a AAA, big-budget Breath of the Wild — and that’s definitely something we can get excited about.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2

Developer: Techland
Publisher: Techland
Release Date: Now TBA 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Genre: Action-Adventure/FPS

Serving as a sequel to the 2015 game, Dying Light, Dying Light 2 is set to release in Q2 2020. Originally announced at E3 2018, the sequel will follow the story of a protagonist named Aiden Caldwell.

Throughout the game, players will have to make a series of choices, each which have unforeseen consequences. Like it’s predecessor, Dying Light 2 will have parkour and other similar gameplay mechanics. The release of Dying Light 2 is still around a year away at the time this article was written, so I can’t imagine an official release date will be announced for a few more months.

However, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about this sequel. For one, the map size is 4x larger than the original game’s map; that means more areas to explore and more people to meet. Secondly, Techland promises to support Dying Light 2 for years, even after the next generation of consoles begin.

Watch Dogs Legion

watch dogs legion 2020

Developer: Ubisoft
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release Date: March 6, 2020 DELAYED, TBA
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Stadia
Genre: Action-Adventure

Perhaps one of the most exciting announcements from E3 2019, to our surprise, was Watch Dogs Legion, which was officially unveiled during the Ubisoft press conference after being leaked the week before by a well-known retailer. Watch Dogs Legion will take place in a post-Brexit London. The game will follow a London based hacker group, known as DedSec, as they try to fight the new London authority. This will be the third installment to the Watch Dogs series and it was originally slated to release on March 6, 2020 but was recently delayed, alongside a few of Ubisoft’s other upcoming games. If you weren’t previously interested in the Watch Dogs franchise before, we have a strong feeling that Legion is going to be the game that does it for you.

We also now know that the game will release after Ubisoft’s fiscal year-end (so, anytime after April 1, 2020), and give the fact that Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot noted that the delayed games will take ‘full advantage’ of the PS5 and Scarlett’s faster downloading times and improved framerates, we have a strong feeling we won’t see these games release until holiday 2020, alongside those consoles.

See the trailer here.

outriders 2020

Developer: People Can Fly
Publisher: Square Enix
Release Date: Early Q3 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Announced at E3 2019 during the E3 2019 Square Enix conference, Outriders is an upcoming co-op shooter. Since it is newly announced, there isn’t a lot known about it at this time. Square Enix did share a release window, but it is pretty far out and likely subject to change. However, for now, we can expect Outriders to release sometime in Q3 2020.

Outriders is a co-op shooter that is built to be played in a group up to three. It is a dark, sci-fi adventure, and features an alien life form. Currently, this is really all that is known about the upcoming People Can Fly game. However, the coming months will definitely reveal more information about Outriders.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 (likely)

Developer: Treyarch Studios
Publisher: Activision
Release Date: Q4 2020
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Genre: Action/FPS

There’s a little bit of craziness surrounding the annual Call of Duty game, after Activision pulled Raven and Sledgehammer Studios off of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 development and handed it over to Treyarch Studios. An official release date hasn’t been given for Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 yet, but it is safe to assume that it will likely be coming in either October or November of 2020 (based on previous years).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 will be the fifth installment to the Black Ops series, which began in 2010. The first game was originally developed by Treyarch, as was the most recent game in the series, Black Ops 4. Activision typically gives the Call of Duty developers a three-year rotation between games, but it seems that Treyarch is being asked to step up a year early.

Although, it will also be released on the Xbox One.

Halo Infinite will continue the story of Master Chief and will follow the events of Halo 5 Guardians. A lot of Halo fans were disappointed that Halo 5 didn’t focus on the Master Chief story very much, so developers have made sure to give fans what they want in Halo Infinite. It is set in an open world and will take place one generation prior to the events of Beyond Good & Evil.

Players will start the game at the bottom of the social system and must complete various tasks to rise up the ranks. Players can visit different planets, complete tasks, gain technology, and improve their status.
